June’s Theme: Skin Health

So, summer has arrived and we have come to the end of our creative month of May! I have been blown away by all the creative talent in the group, we are a talented lot in so many ways!

June is here, and the scent of summer BBQ’s and fresh-cut grass has been swirling in the air. I love this time of year! Naturally, as the weather heats up, we shed winter layers and embrace light summer clothes. We can feel the warm sun on our skin at last and it feels wonderful! So I thought this would be a perfect time to focus on skin health, which will be our theme this month.

Looking after our skin is paramount, especially in hot summer weather, the sun can do a fair bit of damage but also has many benefits which we seem to have forgotten in our haste to slather ourselves in chemical sunscreen and cover up as soon as the sun shines.

I like to think that we in the Wellness Hub know better than that, protection from burning is obviously important but so is feeling the sun's rays on our bare skin. It’s how the body synthesises Vit D, that all-important vitamin, which underpins the immune system and is involved in so many metabolic functions in the body. Sadly, these days most people are woefully deficient which translates to a poorly functioning immune system and a host of health issues. We need the sun and shouldn’t be scared of it, we just have to be mindful

Some things to look forward to this month:

  • We have our lovely Betty Beetroot as our guest on FB this month, sharing with us her very popular face yoga, which I am sure will be lots of fun! Giving our face a workout is a great way to improve skin elasticity and prevent sagging and wrinkles, so I’m all up for that, and of course, smiling and laughing more!

  • I will be doing a FB Live on natural skin care, using food and ingredients you most probably have at home along with probiotic skin care which is just the best and will save you a fortune!

  • We will also be discussing the best sunscreens and Jenna is writing a guide to the best eco-friendly, non-toxic options you can buy.

Food as always will be taking centre stage with plenty of summer ferments, juices, smoothies, smoothie bowls and salads to grace your summer table! Herbs, edible flowers and homegrown produce along with the best of the seasons foraged finds will be making their way into as many recipes as possible, so look forward to delicious, healthy, vibrant food to feed our skin and our army of wee gut buddies.

In good health,

Janice xx
